Minnesota, North Dakota meet in court to argue renewable energy law

A federal judge will hear arguments Thursday in a dispute between Minnesota and North Dakota over Minnesota\’s renewable energy law.

Among the requirements in the Next Generation Energy Act, signed in 2007 by former Gov. Tim Pawlenty, is a provision that prohibits new power generation that would increase carbon dioxide emissions in the state. Coal-fired power plants can\’t be built in Minnesota and utilities can\’t import new coal-generated power from other states.
